Xanthe Geeves
Xanthe Geeves, a graduate of the Tanya Pearson Academy, danced in classical and contemporary companies in the UK, Germany, and the US, finishing her career as a principal artist.
She has worked with many renowned choreographers, including Mats Ek, Nacho Duato, Marco Goecke, and Stephan Thoss, firstly as an artist and then as a choreographic assistant. She has choreographed several full-length productions and created works on three continents.
Xanthe and Gregor Thieler are also long-time choreographers responsible for the Schools Spectacular featured Ballet Ensemble production, which is televised each year.
In 2020, Xanthe was named the Emerging Female Classical Choreographer, a recognition that included a prestigious residency at the Sydney Opera House and a commission from The Australian Ballet.
Xanthe’s recent choreographic work includes "Pura Vida," premiered in 2022 at The Australian Ballet’s Bodytorque season, accompanied live by Orchestra Victoria under Nicolette Fraillon AM.
Her piece 'Arafura Scarp,' choreographed in 2023, takes inspiration from the natural beauty and ruggedness of the Arafura Escarpment in northern Australia. This work was performed at the Sydney Opera House during the Sydney Eisteddfod Gala 2023, featuring the Sydney Youth Orchestra and talented preprofessional dancers of NSW. The dancers transition from embodying the grace and fluidity of the coastal lowlands, mirroring the gentle movements of the nearby Arafura Sea, to portraying the rugged cliffs and intensity of the escarpment itself.
Another exciting recent creation by Xanthe is 'Viaje de Sueños,' developed in collaboration with composer Daniel Rojas and the Sydney Eisteddfod String Quartet. This work was performed by featured artists at the Sydney Opera House to celebrate dance at the Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Gala 2024.
“I’m inspired to explore the human experience through movement, in collaboration with artists who share their understanding of a collective vision.”
